Known affectionately as “El Buki,” iconic singer Marco Antonio Solis is currently on his “Eternamente Agradecido” World Tour, where he will be performing throughout the United States for the remainder of the year. Kicking off his tour in Portland, Oregon last week on August 9th, Solis made his second tour stop in Seattle, Washington the following day on August 10th performing to an enthusiastic crowd of Mexican music lovers. Originally from Michoacan, Mexico, Solis has established himself as one of the most renowned and respected artists in Latin music having started his professional singing career decades ago with his popular band Los Bukis, which recently reunited after many years and are currently performing a Las Vegas residency, exciting Latin music fans around the globe. While the residency is in place, Solis is embarking on his solo tour which will feature many fan favorite songs. For his stop in Seattle, Solis opened the show wearing a gold studded jacket looking as handsome and charismatic as ever while singing the ballad “Se Va Muriendo Mi Alma.” He was accompanied by a stylish and amazing talented band, backup singers, and flashy dancers.
Following the opening song was “Cómo Fui Enamorado de Ti”, a Los Bukis favorite and a personal favorite of mine as well. The remainder of the night featured plenty of solo songs including the beautiful ballad “Si Te Pudiera Mentir,” which showcased the background singers more prominently, and the catchy “Morenita,” which featured the dancers wearing colorful Mexican-style dresses. A favorite moment of mine included the 3 female background singers’ rendition of “Como Tu Mujer”, a classic by iconic Spanish singer Rocío Dúrcal, which was written for her by Solis in 1988.
Certain songs during the show definitely evoked emotions and reminded me of my grandparents whom both passed away a few years ago and had me teary eyed. With my grandfather being a musician who sang in both English and Spanish it just hit me right in my heart, and I felt a sense of sadness of what could have been with his love story with my grandmother which didn’t end the way it should have. Nonetheless, Solis’s songs in general just happen to conjure up so many emotions touching on themes such as love, loss, heartbreak, spirituality and God. A beautiful concert full of Mexican tradition and a variety of fun and emotional songs, love was definitely in the air amongst the attendees and couples in the audience. Solis will next stop in Los Angeles at the Intuit Dome, where he will be the first Latin artist to ever perform in the recently opened brand-new venue. He will then make stops in Salt Lake City, Boston, Chicago, and will play 4 dates in Texas in Hidalgo, Austin, Houston, and Dallas. For his Las Vegas Residency with Los Bukis, he has further dates planned next month in September, and it should be noted he is the first artist to hold a residency fully in Spanish there as well.
