Austin families are invited to experience a day filled with innovation, culture, creativity and community at the upcoming Latinitas TechKermes 2026, taking place on Saturday, June 6, at Austin PBS.
Designed to inspire the next generation of leaders in science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM), TechKermes combines hands-on learning experiences with culturally relevant activities that celebrate the diverse communities of Central Texas. The event will welcome students, families, educators, entrepreneurs and community organizations for an afternoon focused on empowering youth through innovation and education.
Hosted by Latinitas, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering all girls through media and technology, TechKermes continues to grow as one of Austin’s most engaging family-friendly STEAM festivals. Attendees can expect interactive workshops, robotics demonstrations, coding activities, digital storytelling, entrepreneurship opportunities, live performances and community resources all in one place.
The festival’s mission goes beyond technology. Organizers hope to create a welcoming environment where children can see themselves reflected in careers and industries that have historically lacked representation. Through bilingual programming and inclusive experiences, TechKermes encourages youth to dream big while connecting families with local organizations and professionals making a difference across Austin.
Community partners, local businesses and nonprofits will also be present throughout the event sharing resources, educational opportunities and interactive experiences for attendees of all ages. Families will have the chance to explore booths, participate in creative activities and connect with leaders helping shape Austin’s future.
Executive Director Gabriela Kane Guardia says events like TechKermes are important because they create access and exposure for young people interested in STEAM fields while strengthening community connections.
In addition to educational activities, TechKermes will feature entertainment, music, giveaways and opportunities for students to discover pathways into future careers. Organizers hope attendees leave feeling inspired, empowered and excited about the possibilities technology and innovation can create.
TechKermes 2026 will take place from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Austin PBS. Admission is free and open to the public.
